Airport Operations
Toronto Pearson International Airport
Can drone technology be leveraged and safely integrated into live airport operations?

Runway surface inspections usually take several days using manual labour methods to identify issues with the integrity of a runway surface, from cracks, underlying slab failures, drainage and regulatory compliance issues. With a drone, the same results can be achieved in a matter of hours.

Partnering with Niricson Software, UAV8 undertook a recent project at Toronto Pearson Airport. This was the first time this technology, funded by Transport Canada, has been used at an operational airport, and the busiest airport in Canada no less.
